A major threat concerns the invasion of “invasive species” also recorded in the previous PROVIDUNE Life project. It is, in water, the Caulerpa racemosa, green algae from Australia; and, on the ground, “carpobrotus”, agave, and acacia. To be defended are the native species, especially the juniper, a plant that promotes the growth and stabilization of the dunes, and the lily of the sands. Another goal is to reduce or eliminate the threat to the Posidonia beds, determined by anchoring.
The project was presented by Alessandro Sanna, manager of the Environmental sector of the Province of Cagliari, Gianluigi Bacchetta, scientific director of the Biodiversity Centre of the university of Cagliari and Remo Ghiani, director of the Protected Marine Area of Capo Carbonara. Started on June 1, the project will end in 2018.
