Campaign for the replacement of alien plants with typical Mediterranean species

In the so-called Site of Community Importance (SCI) “Isola dei Cavoli, Serpentara, Punta Molentis and Campulongu” (municipality of Villasimius) there are several habitats defined as priority, due to their special importance and their risk of disappearing. These habitats are very vulnerable and seriously threatened by human activities.

Even the presence of alien plants, from different regions of the Mediterranean, can affect the biodiversity of the area.

Some of these species, such as those belonging to the Carpobrotus (Hottentot fig), Acacia and Agave genus and also present in gardens and private ares, can become invasive and pose a potential threat to priority habitats.

For this reason, even more than any other project aiming at environmental protection, RES MARIS needs private partnership, from citizens to companies, in order to eliminate these plants from their private gardens and green areas.

Against invasive alien plant threat, it is essential:

  • not to grow them in private gardens, orchards or land;
  • not to abandon the remains of pruning in the environment .

From this synergistic perspective, CLUB RES MARIS originates, with the aim of raising awareness on this important issue thus turning a positive vision into a concrete action.

If you cut invasive alien species off from your garden, you will receive in return and for free typical Mediterranean plants, produced from seeds collected in Villasimius and multiplied thanks to the cooperation with the nurseries of Agenzia Regionale Forestas.
